New Doula! Need Content!

So you're a new doula, scrolling through social media. You're looking at some amazing pictures being posted by other doulas; thinking to yourself "I have no experience. I don't know what to post."

It can be intimidating trying to make your first handful of posts to social media. I'm going to give you a few content tips!

  1. Use what you have and get creative!

Take a selfie in front of your local hospital or birth center. Use that photo to make a post, letting your community know that you're working in the area and accepting clients.

Take pictures of books that you've purchased during your training. Use the photo to engage with parents. Letting them know about some recommendations for reading to prepare for pregnancy and birth.

2. Post regularly or don't post at all

Be sure to stay consistent with your social media. People WILL judge you from your page. Pages that have long gaps between posts might give off the impression that you are busy with other things, that maybe doula work is just a hobby, that maybe you're not accepting clients, etc. If you can't commit to posting consistently, you're better off not posting. Try to commit to at least one post per week. That's an average of 4 per month. You can even use scheduling tools so that your posts can go up automatically, at a scheduled date and time.

3. Sharing is caring

It's ok to share content from other pages. There are a couple of things to remember when sharing other people's content. Share directly from their page when you can, and compliment the work. "I love this post from WCPS". When you can't share content directly from a source, be sure to tag them in the post to give them credit for their work.

4. Know your audience

Use tools like insights to learn about your audience. What age group do your posts attract? Are you reaching people in your service area? Using hashtags that include your State, City, and surrounding areas; as well as paying to boost ads that reach your target audience are great ways to reach the people that you need to reach. Don't underestimate the power of paying to boost posts. Even $5 may reach over 1,000 people.
